Jerome Hannan was born in Pittsburgh,
Pennsylvania , and was ordained to the priesthood onMay 22 ,1921 . He also served as an educator,lawyer ,author , canonist, anduniversity administrator.On
August 17 ,1954 , Hannan was appointed the fifth Bishop of Scranton byPope Pius XII . He received his episcopal consecration on the followingSeptember 21 from Archbishop Amleto Cicognani, with Archbishop Patrick O'Boyle and BishopHenry Klonowski serving as co-consecrators, inWashington, D.C. .
