blood type=O
occupation=Bodyguard / Street FighterPaul Phoenix is a video game character from the "Tekken" fighting game series. He is a staple of the series, and wants to become "The Toughest in the Universe."
Paul is one of only four Tekken characters (the others being
Heihachi Mishima ,Nina Williams , and Yoshimitsu) to have appeared in every game in the series. Paul also appears in the Namco gameUrban Reign along with his friend, Marshall Law. Paul can be unlocked in Urban Reign by defeating Challenge Mode.History
= Tekken - Tekken 3=Paul is a
Judo expert and a good friend of the Law family. His mixture of karate and judo styles have achieved legendary status, but a seemingly minor complication always arises that prevents him from winning the tournament, as in the case when a traffic jam prevents his confrontation with his rival,Kazuya Mishima , at the end of the second Iron Fist tournament.Tekken 4
Paul went undefeated during The King of Iron Fist Tournament 3, even managing to beat Ogre. He left soon afterwards, claiming himself to be the winner. However, Ogre evolved into True ogre and the tournament continued after his departure. Having realized this only sometime afterwards, Paul became frustrated and angry. No one believed him when he told everyone that he was the "true" winner of The King of Iron Fist Tournament 3. After a short while, he soon turned to alcohol. Paul then heard an announcement for The King of Iron Fist Tournament 4. "This is my chance to prove to everyone that I was right." Paul trained vigorously and entered the tournament.
Tekken 5
Rolling through his opponents one-by-one, Paul felt excited at the prospects of facing Kazuya Mishima, whom he had not faced in over 20 years. However, he once again found Kuma standing in his way. His mind distracted, Paul did not take Kuma seriously at first, and by the time he realized his mistake, he was quickly overwhelmed by the bear and defeated. His loss to Kuma shamed Paul greatly, and he realized he had strayed from the path of a true martial artist and started his training all over again. When the fifth tournament was announced, Paul entered to prove that he is, literally, "the toughest fighter in the universe".
Tekken 6 Paul Phoenix’s rematch with Kuma was fierce, and though victorious, he was utterly exhausted, leaving him unable to continue the King of Iron Fist Tournament 5.Unable to collect any prize money from the last tournament, Paul, who was already burdened by his mountain of debt, learns that a new King of Iron Fist Tournament will be held soon. Believing that if he won the tournament, he could finally say goodbye to his loan troubles, Paul deeply thought about ways to increase his chances of winning—participating on his own was out of the question. If he could assemble a team with someone, his chances of winning the prize money would greatly increase. And so he went over his plan with his best friend Marshall Law - but thinking a three-man team was better than two, renowned boxer Steve Fox caught his attention.
Endings
Tekken:Paul throws a vertical punch to break through some blocks of glass that are stacked up horizontally on the floor. Then, Paul throws two glass bottles into the air, and he breaks them by kicking them before they hit the ground. Finally, he throws a horizontal punch to break through a brick wall with a badly drawn picture of Kazuya's face on it.
Tekken 2:While driving his motorcycle, Paul encounters a boulder blocking his path. He steps off his motorcycle and destroys it with one punch.
Tekken 3:Paul is seen driving his motorcycle on a road in the middle of a desert. He passes a huge truck, and the driver, obviously angry, honks his horn at him. Paul, obviously speeding, went right by a police officer on a motorcycle as well. The cop turns his police siren on and starts chasing Paul. The next scene shows that Paul has been pulled over by the cop. Paul starts to argue while the officer is writing a ticket. Paul kicks the dust up, and when the officer finishes writing Paul's ticket, he rips it out of the book, and Paul slaps his forehead in anger.
Tekken Tag Tournament:Paul is about to fight Kazuya. Suddenly, Kuma appears behind Paul. Paul turns around and punches Kuma, knocking him out. Kuma goes down as Paul smiles. Paul turns around to see that Kazuya has fled. He kicks the floor, turns around, and walks away angrily.
Tekken 4:Paul earns the fortunes of the
Mishima Zaibatsu , but he leaves the management to others. Spending night after night partying, his position of the head of the Zaibatsu became nothing more than a title. His new lifestyle leaves him feeling empty, and upon reflection, he decides to return to his former lifestyle as a martial artist.Tekken 5:The scene opens with a space colony. Inside, Paul has a dojo with the sign "Bring it on ya aliens" painted on it. Inside, he practices his moves, finishing with a powerful punch through a brick wall (with an alien drawing stuck on it). He yells out "Any time! Any place! Bring it on, ya aliens!" as alien saucers begin surrounding the colony. Clearly, Paul wants to continue on being the "toughest fighter in the universe."
"Note: This is one of the few endings in
Tekken 5 that doesn't depictJinpachi Mishima 's death."Tekken: The Motion Picture
Paul makes a cameo appearance in "Tekken: The Motion Picture" as one of the tournament competitors. He has no spoken lines, and it is unknown how he progresses through the tournament. He is last seen, with his clothes a bit torn, carrying an unconscious
Michelle Chang out of the exploding Mishima resort. His rivalries with Kazuya and Kuma are not present in the anime.Fighting Style
Paul's style uses a lot of move from Karate and Judo. He employs a lot of fast single-hit power moves like punches, chops, palm-strikes, elbows, shoulder rams, trips, and frontal kicks. Majority of his moves, including his throws, knock the opponent away (for extra damage on walls in certain arenas).Paul's signature move is his Phoenix Smasher (sometimes referred to as the 'Deathfist'). A linear, mid-hitting straight punch which deals huge damage, and (in most versions) knocks the opponent far away. If timed properly while an opponent is switching between characters, the Phoenix Smasher can be a one-hit K.O.
