swamp and nature preserve located in Bergen, New York. TheBergen Swamp Preservation Society was formed in 1935 to protect and preserve this delicate ecological environment.It was designated a

Nearby swamps had been turned into farmland, prompting several different calls for preservation. Mary Slifer organized a meeting between various nature and garden clubs, to focus attention on this plot of land. The Bergen Swamp Preservation Society was formed to achieve their goals. Through fund raisers and advocacy, they acquired the land and continue to maintain it today.
