Potros Chetumal is a Mexican football club of the Primera División A. Potros plays its home games in the capital of the Mexican state of Quintana Roo, Chetumal. Their games are held at Estadio José López Portillo, which holds up to 6,600 people. It is the filial team to its parent team, Atlante.

History

When Atlante made the move to Cancún in 2007, Grupo Pegaso, which owns Atlante, spoke with the Quintana Roo government, and it became the first step towards the formation of a filial team for Atlante, which was destined to begin play in Primera División A in the state's capital, Chetumal.

A year later, when Atlante's then filial team, Club León, failed to ascend to the Primera División, Grupo Pegaso decided to leave their Guanajuato filial side. With the Quintana Roo government, news started to spread on June 18, 2008 that a professional football team was to begin play in the city of Chetumal. Even Quintana Roo governor Felíx González Canto began to encourage the city of Chetumal to support their new team.

On July 2, 2008, a draft was held in the Primera División A for Atlante's new filial team to have players. Grupo Pegaso named the new club, Portos Chetumal.

On July 6, the municipality of Othon P. Blanco encouraged the population of Chetumal to bring a support group for their new team, installing modulations throughout the city where people can present their proposals, which were being given until July 12. No word of the results have been given up to date.

The first game for the team would take place on July 20, 2008 against the filial team for Jaguares de Chiapas, Jaguares de Tapachula at Estadio Victor Manuel Reyna in Tuxtla Gutierrez, Chiapas. The match was concluded in a 2-2 draw.
