Territorial Directorate "North" was created on the basis of Northern Operational Command by the directive №322/1/010 of the Minister of Defence of Ukraine on 20 May 2005uk icon [http://www.mil.gov.ua/index.php?lang=ua&part=news&sub=read&id=12578 3rd anniversary of creation of the Directorate] ]

On August 15, 2005 temporary Chief of the Directorate Colonel Yuriy Horoliuk signed the first Order within the Directive. This day is considered the creation date for the Directorate. Territorial Directorate "North was the first to switch to a new system of control.

Organization

The Directorate is responsible for territory spanning over 196,000 km², in which 15,000,000 people live. Kharkiv Oblast, Poltava Oblast, Sumy Oblast, Kyiv Oblast, Zhytomyr Oblast, Chernihiv Oblast and Cherkasy Oblast all are under the Directive control. The Directorate is in charge of 7 oblast and Kyiv City Military Commissariat, 135 regional military commissariats, 530 military units and bases.

Main mission of the Directorate is:
*organization of territorial defence;
*recruitment conscripts and contract soldiers;
*maintenance of infastructure
