Sheikh Mohammed Rashid Qabbani (Arabic: محمد رشيد قباني, September 15, 1942) is the Grand Mufti of Lebanon and the most prominent Sunni Muslim cleric in the country. He was born in Beirut. Qabbani has succeeded former grand mufti Hassan Khaled. An alleged assassination attempt against Qabbani was foiled by Lebanese internal security forces on September 21, 2009 during Eid al-Fitr celebrations in Beirut.[1]
Views of Palestinians
In a meeting with Palestinian delegates, Sheikh Mohammed Rashid Qabbani has described Palestinians as "trash" and was quoted of saying: "You [Palestinians] will never be victorious. Nor will your cause. I’m no longer afraid of your weapons." He also accused Palestinians of illegally seizing land that belonged to the state and the Islamic Wafk Trust.[2]
