Kosgi is a small town in Mahbubnagar district of Andhra Pradesh state in India. It comes under Kodangal constituency of the Andhra Pradesh state's Legislative Assembly. Backwardness

Kosgi, and the surrounding mandals are unusually backward in economic, health, educational and social terms. It is among the poorest mandals in Mahbubnagar district, which itself is one of the most backward districts in India [http://www.ceoandhra.nic.in/GIS/existing_acs_pcs.pdf] . Continuous droughts, illiteracy, high poverty, insensitiveness and negligence of the government has left this area far behind the mainstream development of an average town in india [http://www.telangana.org/Palamoor/NewsClips/Raghavachary-AJ-10042005_doc.pdf] .

NGO Support

Due to financial constraints the government of Andhra Pradesh has instituted a policy to actively seek private/NGO adoption of government schools. As part of this, the NGOs like Asha for education and Bhumi are helping to improve the education in Kosgi mandal. The silicon valley chapter of Asha organization is funding one of such project named Balavikas in Kosgi [http://www.ashanet.org/projects/project-view.php?p=883] . The ground work is taken up by Bhumi. This project aims to improve infrastructure, and teaching quality in selected educational institutions in Kosgi.

Migration

The declining economic feasibility of agriculture, and increasing debts of the farmers in Kosgi mandal has forced them to Migrate to the metropolitan cities like Hyderabad and especially Mumbai, where they work mostly as laborer in building construction work.
