The Shingle Inn is a
Brisbanerestaurant and bakery franchise which commenced with the flagship store in Edward Street, Brisbane in 1936 as a Tudor inn style restaurant. It is one of the oldest continuing restaurants in the city of Brisbane [http://www.epa.qld.gov.au/cultural_heritage/heritage_places/heritage_lost__gone_but_not_forgotten/?format=print#si] . It has been owned since 1975 by the Bellchambers Family [http://www.shingleinn.com/aboutshingleinn.html] .
With the closure of the flagship store in the early 2000s due to the new
Queens Plazadevelopment, a franchise of the restaurant was created with a dozen stores throughout the Brisbane central business district, suburbs, and the Gold Coast[http://www.shingleinn.com/shingleinnlocations.html] . The new flagship store is located in the MacArthur Central apartment and shopping centre complex, Queen Street, Brisbane.
The Shingle Inn is a considerably well known aspect of Brisbane's dining culture, where it has welcomed generations of diners, and was also popular with American service personnel during World War II [http://home.st.net.au/~dunn/locations/shingleinn.htm] .
