Ms. Pushpa Devi Singh, a tribal lady (born 18th May 1948 at Raipur, Chhattisgarh d/o Raja Naresh Chandra Singh of Sarangarh and an ex-Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh http://www.uq.net.au/~zzhsoszy/ips/s/sarangarh.html ] [ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Naresh_Chandra_Singh ] ; won the election to the 7th Lok Sabha as a Congress (INC-I) party candidate at the age of 31, polling 53.76 percent of the valid votes, defeating her nearest rival Narhari Prasad Sai of JNP, a minister in Morarji cabinet, who polled 21.97 votes. http://www.eci.gov.in/electionanalysis/GE/PartyCompWinner/S26/partycomp02.htm ] One of the youngest members of parliament then, she was educated at St. Joseph's Convent, Sagar and Maharani Laxmibai College, Bhopal and Vikram University, Ujjain; she fought and won the election to the 8th Lok Sabha in 1984 as a Congress (INC) candidate polling 62.51 per cent votes which has been an unbroken record in this constituency till 2004. She defeated her nearest BJP rival Nand Kumar Sai who polled 29.98% votes. She also won te election to the 10th Lok Sabha in 1991 (10th Lok Sabha) when she polled 53.13% votes and defeated the BJP candidted Nand Kumar Sai, by then te President of the State BJP, once again http://www.eci.gov.in/electionanalysis/GE/PartyCompWinner/S26/partycomp02.htm ] Incidently her victories in three elections are the only occasions when congess in the history of this constituency, polled more than 50% of the votes.
