- Sinuca Brasileira
"Sinuca Brasileira" (
Brazilian Portuguese for Brazilian snooker), often simply called "sinuca", is acue sport played on a snooker table, using only one Cuegloss|Red Ball|red ball instead ofsnooker 's fifteen, with the normal six Cuegloss|Colour Ball|colours of the standard set of snooker balls. The balls carry the same basic Cuegloss|Point|point values as in snooker, and, like in otherpocket billiards games, a white Cuegloss|Cue ball|cue ball is used to Cuegloss|Pot|pot the red and other coloured balls. The game is played almost exclusively inBrazil , and is little known in the outside world. The colours are set up on their normal Cuegloss|Spot|spots as in snooker, and the remaining red ball is placed halfway between the Cuegloss|Pink ball|pink ball and the side Cuegloss|Cushion|cushion. The cue ball is placed in Cuegloss|"D", the|the "D". The opening player may move the ball anywhere within the "D" before playing to pot the red ball. After this, players will only have a chance to move the cue ball when an Cuegloss|In-off|in-off Cuegloss|Foul|foul (Cuegloss|Fault|fault) occurs, and the incoming opponent will get Cuegloss|Ball-in-hand|ball-in-hand, permitting placement of the cue ball anywhere within the "D".
The player who successfully pots the red ball receives one point, and must then pot a colour to continue shooting. After this is successfully potted, the player then has a choice either to play for Cuegloss|Yellow ball|the yellow specifically or to pot a "penalty ball", any ball other than the yellow. The penalty will carry the usual point score it is associated with in snooker (red = 1, yellow = 2, Cuegloss|Green ball|green = 3, Cuegloss|Brown ball|brown = 4, Cuegloss|Blue ball|blue = 5, pink = 6, Cuegloss|Black ball|black = 7).
A player who pots a penalty ball, is "then" obliged to pot the yellow. If, however, the player misses the penalty ball, a foul will be incurred and the incoming opponent will receive 7 points and a turn at the table, playing at the yellow. Other fouls are the same as actions illegal in snooker, although in "sinuca", all fouls concede seven points.
After every ball is potted, the player has the choice of a penalty ball before playing the next colour ball in sequence (in order of ascending point value). For example, the player who pots the green may either move straight onto the brown or play a penalty ball beforehand. A player who pots the pink must move straight onto the black as it is the only ball left on the table.
All other rules are the same as in snooker, although Cuegloss|Plant|plants are automatically illegal because all the balls are different colours. [http://www.snookergames.co.uk/games6.html Rules of Brazilian Snooker (Sinuca Brazileira)] Rules in English]
