"Gainsford End Mill" was built in
1869 at a cost of £2000. It replaced apost mill which had stood on the site since the late eighteenth century. The mill was working until c1928 and afterwards became derelict. "Gainsford End Mill" is a five storey brick tower mill with a domed cap winded by an eight bladed Fantail. When built it had four Patent sails carried on a
cast iron windshaft. The Brake Wheel drove a cast iron Wallower carried on a convert|5|in|mm diameter cast iron Upright Shaft. The convert|6|ft|4|in|m|2 diameter Great Spur Wheel drove three pairs ofmillstone s. The tower is convert|20|ft|m|2 diameter at the base with walls convert|2|ft|mmthick The tower is convert|40|ft|m|2 high and the mill was convert|50|ft|m|2 to the top of the cap. The mill drove three pairs ofmillstone s, two pais were convert|4|ft|4|in|m|2 diameter and the third pair were convert|4|ft|4|in|m|2 diameter.Millers
