Edmund Charles Beard

Edmund Charles Beard (1894-1974) CB CBE MC was a British Major-General during the Second World War and in 1946 aide-de-camp to the king, George VI [http://www.generals.dk/general/Beard/Edmund_Charles/Great_Britain.html] .

Early Career

Born 1894 in Ireland he was the son of civil servant Charles Thomas Beard [http://www.thepeerage.com/p13233.htm] ISO CB. During the first world war he served with the Royal Irish Regiment, continuing his military career through the inter-war period.

Major General

During the Second World War he served in the following capacities:
* The Duke of Wellington's Regiment: Commanding Officer Lieutenant-Colonel
* 44 (Home Counties) Infantry Division: Assistant Adjutant Quartermaster-General Lieutenant-Colonel
* 44 (Home Counties) Infantry Division: Assistant Adjutant Quartermaster-General Colonel
* 133 Infantry Brigade: Officer Commanding Brigadier
