- Showroom Gallery
The Showroom has existed as a publicly funded
art gallery since 1989. It is based in the East End of London, and forms part of the thriving community of galleries that includes The Approach, Chisenhale, Interim Art, Matt's Gallery and Modern Art. It is situated on Bonner Road and is close to both Bethnal Green tube andCambridge Heath railway station .The current Director is Emily Pethick, who has worked at the gallery since May 2008. She was preceded by Kirsty Ogg, Kim Sweet and David Thorp.
The Showroom's signature policy of offering artists a first solo show in
London was refined recently and the gallery now focuses on commissioning new works for the space. The gallery presents four shows per year, a schedule that affords artists the time to develop and realise their work on site.Solo shows at The Showroom have been a launch pad for many well known artists, including
Mona Hatoum ,Sam Taylor-Wood ,Simon Starling , Christina Mackie,Jim Lambie , Claire Barclay andEva Rothschild . A number of artists who have exhibited at The Showroom have been nominated for or have won prestigious awards such as theTurner Prize andBeck's Futures .The Showroom receives fixed-term funding from
Arts Council of England but also receives funding from other organisations and individuals. The Showroom maintains a strong
online presence, offering a wide range ofarchive materials as well as publications for sale.Exhibition Programme at The Showroom
