Vasile Frateanu

Vasile Frăteanu is PhD university professor at the „Babeş-Bolyai" University, Cluj-Napoca.

Biography

Education

He was born on February, 24, 1942 in Timişoara and he attended the „Gh. Bariţiu” High school, Cluj-Napoca (1948-1959). Between 1959 and 1964 he attended the courses of the Philology College of Cluj-Napoca, (the licence examination – 1965): he later obtained the PhD in Philology (specialty: Aesthetics) at the University of Bucharest (1975) with the thesis “ Myth And Culture At Nietzsche”.

Professional Activity

Out of his vast professional activity, we must emphasize that he was editor of The Literature Publishing House, the Cluj-Napoca branch (1966-1970), editor for the „Dacia” Publishing House (1970-1975), assistant professor at the Schooling Collective for the Foreign Citizens of the „Babeş-Bolyai” University, Cluj-Napoca (1975-1985), teacher at the „Emil Racoviţă” and „Gheorghe Şincai” High schools from Cluj-Napoca (September, 1, 1985 – November, 1, 1985), chief librarian at the Central University Library of Cluj-Napoca (1985 – 1992). He has also held the positions of Head of the Philosophy Department (2000-2002) and Head of the Systematic Philosophy Department (1999-2004), from the „Babeş-Bolyai” University.

Positions

Lately, he has held several positions: since 1992, docent at the „Babeş-Bolyai” University of Cluj-Napoca, the titular of the Ontology, Metaphysics, Philosophy and Theology courses, since 2003, professor at the „Babeş-Bolyai” University of Cluj-Napoca, the titular of the Ontology, Metaphysics, Philosophy and Theology courses.

Activities

Among his activities, the following are to be highlit: PhD Tutor (since 2005); President Of The Commissions For Granting The 1st Didactic Degree and scientific tutor for the drafting of the candidates’ papers, Member of the Editorial College of the „Studia Universitatis” magazine, Babeş-Bolyai; Member of the Editorial College of the magazine: “Thinking, Culture, Society”; Member of the Cultural Association „Lucian Blaga”.

He has been awarded: - The Romanian Academy’s Vasile Conta Prize for the paper Metaphysics Treaty (2002); - Outstanding Professional Award, for dedicated Achievements in the Field of Philosophy, American Biographical Institute, Inc., USA (2002); - Man of the Year, American Biographical Institute, USA (2002).
