Marquetta L. Goodwine, is Queen Quet, Chieftess of the Gullah/Geechee Nation, is a native of St. Helena Island, South Carolina She is an author, mathematician, computer scientist, historic preservationist, and "The Art-ivist." She is the elected and enstooled Head-of-State for the Gullah/Geechee Nation. www.QueenQuet.com The Gullah/Geechee Nation begins in Jacksonville, NC and extends to Jacksonville, Florida encompassing the Sea Islands and 30-35 miles inland to the St. John's River. www.officialgullahgeechee.info

Goodwine is the founder of the Gullah/Geechee Sea Island Coalition www.gullahgeechee.net which is the premiere organization for the human rights and cultural continuation of Gullah/Geechees. In 1999 she became the first Gullah to speak before the United Nations, giving testimony at an April 1 hearing of the Commission on Human Rights in Switzerland.[1] She has since been invited to participate in the United Nations Forum on Minority Rights which was first established in 2008. She is also a permanent representative to the United Nations as a member of the directorate of IHRAAM and for Gullah/Geechees.

Queen Quet is also the Chair of the Gullah/Geechee Cultural Heritage Corridor General Management Plan and Expert Commissioner for South Carolina. She is a member of the 15 person commission established by the United States Gullah/Geechee Cultural Heritage Act which was passed by the United States Congress in 2006.

Queen Quet served as a consultant for the 2000 Mel Gibson film The Patriot, which featured scenes set on the South Carolina coast of the Gullah/Geechee Nation. She has been an advisor to several historic documentaries including "This Far by Faith: The African American Religious Experience," "The Rise and Fall of Jim Crow," "Slavery and the Making of America," "Reconstruction: The Second Civil War," and "The Will to Survive: The Story of the Gullah/Geechee Nation." She also lectures throughout the world.

She is the founder of a historic presentation troupe, "De Gullah Cunneckshun" which has recorded several CDs and been featured artist for films and film soundtracks.

Queen Quet has received numerous awards for her writing, presentations, community service, and as a leader and visionary as well as a woman of distinction. Queen Quet Dyas are celebrated in numerous states in the United States including Ohio, Texas, Georgia, South Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Louisiana. Queen Quet also holds keys to several cities.

Queen Quet continues to present around the world and to serve her people through standing for them.
