- Instant Death
The band Instant Death is
Dave Dreiwitz andScott Byrne (June 3 ,1961 -July 3 ,2005 ). Scott and Dave met on French Street inNew Brunswick, NJ in the fall of1986 . It was after both had played gigs and Scott was loading his drums into his apartment and Dave was walking down the street with his upright bass (unknowingly they were neighbors).Scott and Jack Petruzzelli (currently w/
The Fab Faux andRufus Wainwright ) had a band at the time called "The Works" and they needed a bassist. Fate would have it that Dave and Scott's paths crossed that day.Over the years Scott and Dave worked together not only with Jack but many other musicians. They encountered a wide range of styles, but something was missing; really heavy music.
Unable to find a guitarist with feedback-laden Marshall stacks, or a belting, confrontational front man, Dave and Scott started jamming as a duo in December 1991.
Things sounded good enough for them to start booking gigs as a novelty act, playing only 20 minute long sets. It was Dave's idea to name the band "Instant Death".
Soon their songwriting developed and they had enough material for three-hour shows. Over the years they've played many gigs in the NY/NJ metropolitan area. The highlight of their live performances was opening for
Ween when they toured in 1994.In August 2002 Instant Death put out their debut record "New Evil Vibe" produced by
Andrew Weiss . The album is available throughChocodog Records .On
July 3 ,2005 , at 11:30pmScott Byrne died ofheart failure .Dave is currently the bass player in
Ween .External links
