Dan Housego was educated; first at Moulsford Prep School, Oxford, then at the Oratory School, Woodcote. He attended the Middlesex Cricket Academy. He made his first-class debut as a right-handed batsman versus Derbyshire in August 2008, aged nineteen.
He is reputed to be strong off both the back and front foot and an all-round athlete, having played for Oxford United FC and won the u12 national 200m championship, the latter happening under strange circumstances. He was running the bend of the track with a mild headwind coming in to the final 80 metres he was in last place. Only for the whole of the field other than he did to slip on the wet track, meaning he came home a comfortable first place. He recalls this story as 'something to tell the grandchildren,' and a major development in the continued improvement in running spike education, something he is very passionate about. He has also played for Berkshire in the Minor Counties Championship on numerous occasions.
