Kothapalli Jayashankar

Professor Kothapalli Jayashankar (Telugu: జయ శంకర్, (b. 6th August 1934) is the former Vice Chancellor of Kakatiya University and an activist in the "Separate Telangana Movement". He has been fighting for a separate Telangana since 1953. His dream is to see new statehood for the Telangana people.

Political career

He has been the driving force behind all the Telanagana movements that exist and are taking shape. He is the key person behind the "Telangana Rashtra Samithi" (TRS) (movememt and political party) in the Telangana region of Andhrapradesh, India.).

Academic career

He holds a B.Ed. (Osmania University), degrees of M.A. in economics from both (Banares University) and (Aligarh University), and a Ph.D in economics from Osmania University. Before becoming head of Kakatiya University from 1991-94, he was Registrar of Central Institute of English & Foreign Languages (CIEFL), Hyderabad (1982-91), Registrar of Kakatiya University, Warangal (1979-81), and Principal of CKM College, Warangal (1975-79). He has to his credit a large number of papers published in English and Telugu, in the areas of economic development and educational economics, and also on various aspects of the Telangana problem.

Among his other positions, he has been a member of the Board of Governors: Central Institute of English & Foreign Languages (CIEFL), Hyderabad, and also of th Regional Engineering College, Warangal, and a member of the Planning Board, Mahatama Gandhi University, Kottayam, Kerala, and of the Andhra Pradesh State Council of Higher Education

Passion to separate state

All his studies are went in Urdu medium, only one available medium in Hyderabad state (now Telangana) at that time. Because of this practice by nizam government most of the people are became illiterate in this region. So superstitions are spread over all villages particularly in Mahabubnagar (Palamuru) District. It is very near to Hyderabad. Illiteracy is one of the main cause by which people of this region are always betrayed.

Jayashankar wants separate state so that the region people can rule themselves in order to eradicate illiteracy and other major problems like safe drinking water and water to the fields in the region as early as possible. The migrated rulers are always partial against development in this region. So he wants separate state.

He wants liberation again. His passion will going to come true in this March.
