- Stanley Mark Wood
The Rt Rev (Stanley) Mark Wood was third Bishop of Matabeleland and the inaugural
Bishop of Ludlow [The Times , Monday, Nov 09, 1981; pg. 12; Issue 61077; col F "Church news Inaugural Bishop of Ludlow announced"] . He was born on21 May 1919 and educated atUniversity College, Cardiff [ ”Who's Who 1992 “(London, A & C Black ISBN 0713635142)] . After a period of study atCollege of the Resurrection he wasordained Deacon in 1942 andPriest in 1943 [ “Crockford's clerical directory 1995” (Lambeth,Church House ISBN 0715180886)] , after a Curacy at "St Mary's, Cardiff Docks" [ [http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/wal/GLA/Cardiff/StMary/ Church history] ] he served the Church in Southern Africa for over 30 years [Curate ,Sophiatown Mission,Johannesburg , 1945-47; Rector of Bloemhof,Transvaal , 1947-50; Priest in charge of "St Cyprian's Miss"ion, Johannesburg, 1950-55; Rector of Marandellas,Zimbabwe , 1955-65; Dean of Harare 1965-70; Bishop of Matabeleland, 1971-77: Crockfords Ibid] before returning to England, firstly as anAssistant Bishop within theDiocese of Hereford and finally as its Suffragan.
