Fernandes

Fernandes is a common surname in the Portuguese language, namely in Portugal and Brazil. It was originally a patronymic, meaning "son of Fernando" (English: Ferdinand). Its Spanish equivalents are "Fernández" and "Hernández". The "Arabized" version of this surname is "Ibn Faranda". It was used by the Mozarabs and Muwallads in Al-Andalus.
