Saltwater Band are an Indigenous Roots band from Galiwin'ku on Elcho Island, around 560 kilometers from Darwin. The members are Yolngu and they sing mostly in language. Their songs are a mixture of traditional songs and reggae/ska influenced pop. Saltwater Bands first cd "Gapu Damurrun", sold more than 10,000 copies, a then record for an independent NT act [ [http://www.nit.com.au/TheArts/story.aspx?id=3883 National Indigenous Times - Issue 68] Deadly times for Saltwater] Their album "Djarridjarri" was nominated for the 2004 Best World Music Album Aria Award.
