The Hispanic Flag is the official flag used to represent the hispanic people.

Description

The flag consists of 3 purple cross pattée, representing Christopher Columbus´s ships, and a golden inti, representing the awakening of the new lands, on a white field to symbolize peace. The purple color of the crosses comes from the ancient use of this color in the lion of the kingdom of León (later Crown of Castile), where the spanish lenguage was born.

History

Tha flag was designed by Ángel Camblor, a captain of the uruguayan army. He was the winner of a contest organized by Juana de Ibarbourou in 1932.

The flag was first raised on Independence Square of Montevideo thursday, october 12th, 1932, and officially adopted by all member countries of the Pan-American Conference at their VII assambly, celebrated on 1933.
