The Electrical and Electronics Engineering Department of
Bogazici University (BUEE) has stated its educational mission as to provide its students with an excellent undergraduate education to prepare them for successful professional careers in the international arena, as well as for the top-rating graduate schools. Our research mission is to carry out world-class research in selected areas of electrical and electronics engineering.
Faculty currently has 25 members, 22 teaching assistans and technical staff serving 300 undergrads and over 150 graduate students. [ [http://www.ee.boun.edu.tr/introduction.asp#Information BUEE, About Us] ] Students can choose four areas of specilization. Namely: Telecommunication and Signal Processing, Electronics, Control Theory and Solid State.
Double Major programs with Physics and Mathematics department are present to make students earn amultidisiciplinary educational background for their further academic life. The quality of the undergraduate education is accredited byABET .Research
There are more than 10 laboratories that are used for research and education on various fields of
electrical engineering .
These are: [http://esaki.ee.boun.edu.tr BETA LAB] which has research areas on design automation systems for analog and digital circuits, low-power design, power aware design methodologies, analog-to-digital converter circuits and architectures especially Sigma-Delta ADC's, speech processing hardware, embedded systems and mixed-signal industrial oriented designs. [ [http://www.ee.boun.edu.tr/research/research_overview.asp Research Overview at Electrical Engineering] ]
[http://www.busim.ee.boun.edu.tr/ BUSIM: Signal and Image Processing Laboratory] is contributing research in areas of statistical signal processing, image and speech processing, video coding, medical signal processing. BUSIM had hosted various international conferences funded byTUBITAK andEU Framework . BUSIM Laboratory also hosts [http://www.vavlab.ee.boun.edu.tr "VAV:Volumetric Analysis and Visualization Group"] and [http://www.busim.ee.boun.edu.tr/~speech/ "SPG: Speech Processing Group"] .
[http://www.isl.ee.boun.edu.tr ISL: Intelligent Systems Laboratory] aims to conduct research in areas of "automated inspection, teleoperation, autonomous robots, and sensor-motor drive systems". It was established in 1997 by major financial support from Turkish State Planning Agency and now is being sponsored byTUBITAK .
[http://www.ee.boun.edu.tr/lung_acoustics LAL: Lung Acoustics Laboratory] is a laboratory where multidisciplinary research is done on developing appropriate hardware for gathering lung sounds and on developing an algorithm to analyze these sounds. Desired result is a "autonomous diagnosing stethoscope". Some of the current topics in LAL are online processing and classification of respiratory sounds using digital signal processors, multi-resolution analysis of respiratory sounds, system development for multi-channel acquisition of respiratory sounds and modeling air flow-lung sound relationship. [ [http://www.ee.boun.edu.tr/lung_acoustics LAL Web Page] ]
[http://mecha.ee.boun.edu.tr Mechatronics Laboratory] focuses on areas of both "intelligent systems" and "mechatronics". Some practical applications of the Mechatronics Laboratory are "robotic manipulators" (2 DOF SCARA, 5DOF CRS/Quanser and Inverted Pendulum), electromechanical system (Antilock Braking System) and flexible manufacturing system (MPS 500).
[http://www.bumems.ee.boun.edu.tr BUMEMS: Bogazici University Micro Electro Mechanical Systems Laboratory] aims to do research on Micro Electro-Mechanical Systems, microcircuits and polymer microfabrication. The initial focus is mainly on polymer microfabrication and their applications to polymer electronics, polymer light emitting diodes, tactile imagers and various integrated micro systems with polymer sensors and actuators since it involves relatively cheaper and easier fabrication methods and equipments.
[http://www.wcl.boun.edu.tr WCL: Wireless Communication Laboratory] is established in 2005 with major financial support of Bogazici University Research Fund andTUBITAK .TUBITAK and "State Planning Agency" are still the two major funding agencies of WCL. Currently, there is 2 faculty members, 2 PhD and 5 MS students engaging in research on high-speed wireless/mobile/satellite communications. WCL also works on collaboration with NETLAB(computer NETwork reseach LABoratory) and SATLAB(SATellite communications research LABoratory).
Admissions
For undergraduate admissions students need to enter either
SAT orOSS . In 2005 and 2006, BUEE was the department with highest base point in Turkey, according toOSS results.
For undergraduate transfer admission, applicable students must have the following qualifications: - Registered student in an undergraduate program of Basic Sciences and Engineering. - GPA of at least 3.50/4.00 (or equivalent) - Proficiency in English. TOEFL (computer-based minimum 213, TWE: minimum 4.5 or paper-based minimum 550, TWE: minimum 4.5 or IBT Test: 79, TWE: 24) or IELTS of minimum 7.0 or Boğaziçi University English Proficiency Test (BUEPT) of minimum 60 is required. - Should have anOSS score that qualifies to enroll to any dept. at Bogazici University.
