Heather Burke is an
archaeologist . She is an Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Archaeology [http://www.ehlt.flinders.edu.au/archaeology/] atFlinders University ,Adelaide, Australia . Before her appointment at Flinders University she taught briefly at theUniversity of New England and spent many years as an archaeological consultant in various parts of the country. Heather Burke specialises in historical archaeology, especially in relation to ideology, identity and the built environment.She obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree with First-Class Honours in Archaeology from the University of New England in 1987, and a PhD from the same university in 1997. Her doctoral thesis investigated the expression of ideology within architectural style in the city of Armidale, New South Wales, Australia, during the period 1830 to 1930.
