Grandage Edwards Powell was an
Anglican Bishop in the second quarter of the 20th century. Born on20 November 1882 into a clerical family [His father was the "Rev Astell Drayner Powell" sometime Canon ofManchester Cathedral >“Who was Who” 1897-1990 London,A & C Black , 1991 ISBN 071363457X] and educated at Rugby andUniversity College, Oxford , he was ordained in 1906. After curacies inFallowfield andBlackburn [During which time he married "Madeline Mary Allen", by whom he had two sons>Who was Who (Ibid)] he rose rapidly in the Church hierarchy becoming successivelyVicar of "St Matthew’s, West Kensington" [ [http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/A2A/records.aspx?cat=074-p80mtw&cid=-1&Gsm=2008-06-18 History of church within National Archives] ] ,Rural Dean ofLeicester andArchdeacon of Carlisle.
