"...Ich töte mich jedesmal aufs Neue, doch ich bin unsterblich, und ich erstehe wieder auf; in einer Vision des Untergangs..."" (German:"...I kill myself every time again, but I am immortal, and I rise again; in a vision of Doom.."; usually referred to as "...Ich töte mich..."") is the title of Darkwave band Sopor Aeternus & The Ensemble of Shadows' debut album. It was released in 1994.

Album Information & Chronology

The original pressing of "...Ich töte mich..." had no title (thus leading to it being mistakenly called, by some, "Sopor Aeternus"), with the "...Ich töte mich..." line written in blackletter on the back cover; since then, the album has been called this and became wholly official on re-releases. A limited pressing of 1,000 CDs was initially available, containing within the limited albums a "Sopor Aeternus" poster with lyrics of several songs in the album featured on the back along with an icon of a Hindu God... Shortly thereafter (in late 1994), a non-limited version of the album was released, but lacked the unique poster that came with the original, finite one.

In 1999, "...Ich töte mich..." was re-released with slightly different artwork and seven bonus tracks, including a couple of demos. All of the bonus songs were later re-recorded for the 2003 album "".

In 2004, the album was re-released again with completely redesigned artwork. The marketing campaign in 2004 stressed that the recordings were demos and should be purchased after buying another album; the cover was even redesigned to include the full title and a stripe labelling the album as being demos. This sparked some outrage amongst fans, citing that "...Ich töte mich..." was the reason they began listening to Sopor Aeternus in the first place.Fact|date=February 2008 Apocalyptic Vision later changed the press release but kept the "demo stripe" on the cover.

This album was preeceded by the unreleased third of the three demos of the "Undead Trilogy (Blut der schwarzen Rose)", "Till Time and Times Are Done". It was succeeded by the album, "Todeswunsch - Sous le soleil de Saturne".

    Notes

    * All song titles had their subtitles removed on the 2004 re-release edition.
    * The song, "Tanz der Grausamkeit," a suicide invocation, became an underground hit. It was later re-released under the title, "Saltatio Crudelitas," in the album, Todeswunsch - Sous le soleil de Saturne and the EP, Ehjeh Ascher Ehjeh.
    * "Birth - Fiendish Figuration" has gone on to be re-recorded at least three more times on other albums.
