Roger Moe (born
June 2 1944 ,Crookston, Minnesota ) is an Americanpolitician .He graduated from Crookston Central High School and received his college degree from
Mayville State College in North Dakota. His graduate studies were atMoorhead State University (Moorhead, MN) andNorth Dakota State University (Fargo, ND). In 2005 he received an HonoraryLL.D (Doctor of Laws Degree) from theUniversity of Minnesota .He taught math and coached wrestling at Ada High School before running for Minnesota State Senate. He was elected to the State Senate in 1970, the second youngest senator in Minnesota history at that time, and as the DFL majority leader in 1981, is among the longest reigning majority leaders in the history of the country (1981-2002).
Among his many accomplishments was an initiative to transfer lottery proceeds to Minnesota environmental projects (Legislative Commission on Minnesota Resources - LCMR)and the creation of the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities governance system.
After running as
Skip Humphrey 's Lt. Governor againstJesse Ventura in 1998, he ran for Governor againstTim Pawlenty ,Tim Penny , and Ken Pentel in 2002. Pawlenty won that election. Moe andJulie Sabo , his running mate, received 36% in the general election, while Pawlenty received 44%.Moe has since retired from public office. He is a business consultant, serves on several state and national non-profit boards and currently resides at his home in
