Sean Senechal

Sean Senechal

Sean Senechal is an animal physiologist who has specialized as a cognitive ethologist.

She attended UC Berkeley and UC Davis, as well as California State Universities in San Francisco, California and Monterey, California. She teaches Physiology and Animal Learning and Language at Hartnell College in Salinas, California [ [http://www.hartnell.edu Hartnell College, California] ] .

She founded the AnimalSign Center, a language school for (non-primate) animals [ [http://www.animalsign.org AnimalSign] ] . She created AnimalSign Language used to teach animals a new animal version of 'ASL' where they learned to gesture 'words'. This approach potentially extends the communication capability of animals. Pilot work was promising and published in "CANIS FAMILIARIS" (a new canine magazine) and her book "AnimalSign To You. Imagine! Signing Is Not Just for Primates Anymore". Continued research and practice is underway on this approach of teaching a gestural language to animals.
