Tom Johnson (1750 – 1797), born Tom Jackling, was a premiere boxer of the
bare-knuckle era in England.Professional career
Johnson was bare-knuckle Champion of England from 1784 to 1791. Johnson began boxing at the age of twenty three, and often fought men superior to him in weight, strength and experience. Some or his toughest fights had been with Jarvis “Death” Oliver, the Croydon Drover, Fry "Bill" Warr and Michael Ryan, whom he met twice. [The Fort Wayne Sentinel. Saturday February 19, 1910]
Life After Boxing
