Early life and education
Hanan Habibzai was born in 1979 in
Baghlan Province ,Afghanistan . He was a less then a year old when the
Soviet Union invaded Afghanistan. His family enteredPakistan asrefugees and he grew up in arefugee camp nearPeshawar . After completing his secondary education in Peshawar, he studied atKabul University .Career
Following the fall of the
Taliban regime in 2001, Habibzai began working with theBBC World Service as acorrespondent and as afreelance reporter forReuters in the north ofAfghanistan . In the beginning of 2007, he moved to the BBC Kabul office as abroadcast andonline producer and senior reporter and continuing his work there.Habibzai is known as one of the key
critics ofwarlords andwar criminals in the country who are still holding power.He is also known as a kind and feeling short storywriter inPashto languageprose andliterature notes. Thousands of his social and literature articles have been published in different afghan magazines, news papers and WebPages. His twobooks have been also published inAfghanistan and one of hisbooks , which delivers the story of the looting of antiquities] in the northern region ofAfghanistan bywarlords andwar criminals is very famous. This book is the part of investigation that has been done by Hanan Habibzai for a series of special programs to theBBC Pashto service. Thisbook has pushed the government ofAfghanistan to deploy hundreds ofafghan army soldiers to protect the remnants of historical places in the Balkh and Jowazjan provinces.Published works
