Details

On the morning of April 10, 2001, a Scottsdale, Arizona residence exploded and burned. The bodies of Mary Fisher and her two children, Robert Jr. (10) and Brittany (12), were recovered from the wreckage. It was determined that the children's throats had been slit, and their mother had been shot in the head. Robert William Fisher, Mary's husband and the children's father, became the main suspect in the case. Arson investigators believe Fisher rigged the house in hopes of covering up the murders. On April 20, police located Mary Fisher's SUV abandoned in Tonto National Forest, 100 miles north of Scottsdale. The family's dog "Blue" was recovered, but there was no sign of Robert Fisher.

On July 19, 2001, an Arizona Superior Court state arrest warrant was issued at Phoenix, charging Fisher with three counts of first degree murder and one count of arson. Subsequently, Fisher was declared a fugitive, and a federal arrest warrant was issued by the United States District Court for the District of Arizona, charging him with unlawful flight. By 2002, he became one of the FBI's Ten Most Wanted. Efforts by authorities to locate and arrest him have so far been unsuccessful.

In February 2004, a man who bore a striking resemblance to Robert Fisher was arrested in Surrey, British Columbia, Canada by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. Fingerprints eventually confirmed that the man was not Fisher. The man, who also went by the name Robert, was held by Canadian police for approximately one week until a family member correctly identified the man.
