USNS Navasota (T-AO-106)

USNS "Navasota" (T-AO-106), was a fleet replenishment oiler that served as a United States Naval Ship in the Military Sealift Command from 1975 to 1991. She had previously served as a commissioned ship in the United States Navy from 1946 to 1975 as USS "Navasota" (AO-106).

Construction and Acquisition

USS "Navasota" (AO-106) was laid down as Maritime Commission hull 2702 on 22 February 1945 by Sun Shipbuilding and Drydock Company, Chester, Pennsylvania. She was launched on 30 August 1945, and commissioned into the U.S. Navy on 27 February 1946 as USS "Navasota" (AO-106).

On 13 August 1975, "Navasota" was decommissioned. She transferred to the Military Sealift Command, becoming United States Naval Ship USNS "Navasota" (T-AO-106). Under this new designation, she continued in service in support of the U.S. Navy with a civilian crew.

Operational History

"Navasota" began active service with the Military Sealift Command in 1975. She was taken out of service in 1991.

Final Disposition

"Navasota" was stricken from the Navy List on 2 January 1992. She was sold for scrapping on 25 October 1995.
