Felipe Alcaraz (
March 1 1943 -) is a Spanishpolitician . He is president of thePartido Comunista de España and a federal spokesman of theIzquierda Unida .Alcaraz obtained a doctorate in
philology and began as a university professor and began his opposition to Francoism in the 1950s. In 1973 he affiliated with thePartido Comunista de España and in 1979 joined the Central Committee and was chosen as deputy forJaén . In 1981 he was chosen Secretary General of thePartido Comunista de Andalucía , a position that he maintained until 2002. He was chosen deputy of the Parliament of Andalusia bySeville (province) in 1982, 1986 and 1990, being several times parliamentary spokesman of the PCE and IU.In 1993, 1996 and 2000 he again was chosen national deputy by the Seville elections, being spokesman of the IU in the
Spanish Congress of Deputies . In 2004 he lost his seat in the general elections and attmepted to dispute toGaspar Llamazares , although he finally retired his candidacy in supportingEnrique Santiago . In XVII Congress Federal of the PCE in June 2005, supported by the Partido Comunista de Andalucía, he reached an agreement withFrancisco Frutos ] and was chosen as Exectuive President garnering 80% of the votes. His son,Lucas Alcaraz , is a soccer trainer, and trained atReal Murcia , until he was dismissed.
