He was a merchant's clerk in
Boston, Massachusetts before coming toNew York City . Soon after starting his business career there, he married a daughter of John Haggerty. He resided in New York for more than forty years. In the 1840s Draper was appointed one of a board ofAlmshouse Governors. He became noteworthy in commercial, political, and social circles.References
