Iran hosted the 2008 West Asian Football Federation Championship. The 2008 WAFF Championship was the 5th West Asian Football Federation Championship, an international tournament for West Asian countries and territories. After progressing passed the group stage at the top of the table, Iran went on to beat Syria and Jordan to win the WAFF Championship.
