dwarf elliptical galaxy was discovered by A.G. Wilson of theLowell Observatory in 1954. It is part of theUrsa Minor constellation , and asatellite galaxy to theMilky Way . The galaxy consists mainly of older stars and there appears to be little to no ongoing star formation in the Ursa Minor Dwarf galaxy.Evolutionary history
In 1999, Mighell & Burke used the
Hubble Space Telescope to confirm that the UMi system had a straight forward evolutionary history with a single ~2 Gyr long burst ofstar formation around 14 Gyr ago. citation
