Project Sanctuary

Project Sanctuary (PS), developed by Silvia Hartmann, is a mental technique similar to Image streaming, which encourages the use of visualisation for bi-directional communication with the unconscious mind. The purpose is to enhance cognitive ability for visualisation as can be beneficial for artistic and scientific endeavours.

History

Hartmann has from a young age always had above normal abilities for utilising her unconscious mind for her artistic works, music, fiction and non-fiction. In the mid-nineties she discovered that a high percentage of her friends, family and colleagues also had this gift, but were unpractised at using them. It was then that Hartmann set about creating a system that allowed others to focus and hone their visualisations.

Hartmann published her ideas in a book called Project Sanctuary in 1996 which was highly regarded particularly in the field of Neuro Linguistic Programming NLP where Win Wenger had created a similar technique called Image streaming. Image streaming, like Project Sanctuary, utilises communication between the conscious and unconscious mind, with the difference being in how these communication channels are opened up.

The Project Sanctuary technique is also similar to Richard Bandler's Design Human Engineering™ DHE.

Hartmann spent much of her professional time in the late nineties and early noughties distracted on the then young field of Emotional Freedom Techniques and later her own psychotherapeutic system called EmoTrance, which she developed with friend and colleague Nicola Quinn.

In these years away from the direct promotion of Project Sanctuary, Hartmann used the technique itself to write her fiction novels, most notably:

Hartmann also used the process to write the training syllabi for training organisations The Sidereus Foundation, the certifying body behind EmoTrance, and The Association for Meridian Energy Therapies The AMT.

In 2007, Hartmann returned to Project Sanctuary by writing the Project Sanctuary Masters distance learning course. To facilitate feedback she agreed to tutor the first 23 students personally.

This close contact with the students resulted in a greater refinement of the Project Sanctuary process. A set of 23 symbols developed by Hartmann in 2008 that can be ‘played’ in a variety of games either for learning about Project Sanctuary, problem solving or for creating immersive realities.
