Hán tự : ; 1218 - 1278), empress ofVietnam , was the last ruler of theLý Dynasty . She ascended to the throne at the age of seven in 1225, when she was appointed to power by her ailing fatherLý Huệ Tông , on the advice ofTrần Thủ Độ . Trần Thủ Độ's power brokering had other aims, however, and Lý Chiêu Hoàng was soon married off to Trần Thủ Độ's nephew, Trần Cảnh (temple name Trần Thái Tông), also seven years of age. Lý Chiêu Hoàng quickly yielded the throne to Trần Cảnh, who thus became the Emperor of Vietnam and founder of theTrần Dynasty .When Lý Chiêu Hoàng was unable to produce a male heir by the age of 19, Trần Thủ Độ orchestrated a scandalous wife-swap in 1237 between Trần Cảnh and his elder brother
Trần Liễu . Due to the swap, Lý Chiêu Hoàng was demoted from empress to princess. Despite the ensuing uproar, Trần Thủ Độ was eventually able to pacify the court, with Trần Liễu narrowly avoiding execution as punishment for his reaction to the swap.
