Rhodesia (nowZimbabwe ) known for his works depicting African iconography and primitive African life. Songo wasdisabled and wheelchair bound and spent most of his life working through the Cyrene Mission School, producing art on the behest ofFrank McEwen , a Britishexpatriate who helped establish and later ran the Rhodesian National Gallery of Art [http://www.metmuseum.org/toah/ht/11/sfs/ht11sfs.htm] (now theNational Gallery of Zimbabwe) .
