- Kulim
Kulim is a major town and district in
Kedah ,Malaysia . It is the main industrial area in Kedah and the site ofIntel Corporation regional factory and R&D center in Malaysia. It also houses lots of multinational companies in its very own hi tech park(second hi tech park in Malaysia). Kulim is connected to nearbyButterworth inPenang via a short expressway. The estimation of Kulim's population are around 150k as of year 2007.Around the year 1990 till 1995, Kulim was well known for having lots of paddy fields. In Malaysia, Kedah and Perlis are the leading states that produces rice to sustain this country's demands and also for export purposes. However, much have changed over the years and now, only a few of those fields are left. I am not sure if they still produce rice for commercial purpose.
Kulim got its name from a tree(as shown). This particular tree is valued for its wood usage and during 1997, the value for Kulim tree per m³ was about RM270. The scientific name for Kulim tree is Scorodocarpus borneensis.
