Lamon Records

Lamon Records, a North Carolina record label, now based in Nashville, TN was started in 1962 by Dwight and Cathy Moody. The label gained prominence in the 1980s when their sons, Carlton Moody, Dave Moody and Trent Moody, known as The Moody Brothers earned a Grammy Award nomination for their instrumental performance of the classic fiddle tune "Cotton Eyed Joe." This trio of brothers would be nominated for a second Grammy on the Lamon family label in 1990 and win three International Country Music Awards in Europe. Then, Disney came calling to offer the Moodys a featured concert performance role at Disneyland Paris in France, when the park and entertainment complex opened in 1992. This led to several Gold Record awards for the Moodys' country dance albums in the UK. The international success of The Moody Brothers helped establish Lamon as a prominent indie label, opening the door for its releases not only in the US, but in the UK, Germany, France, Czech Republic, Canada, and Japan, among other foreign markets.

Today, Lamon Records has an extensive list of worldwide distribution and licensing partners which it has built relationships with over the years. The label's various releases and titles have been released and licensed on BMG, Sony Records, Koch Records, Disney, Word Records, and other major labels during its history.

Artist Development - Known primarily as an artist development label, Lamon Records concentrates its efforts in Americana, Bluegrass, Country, as well as all forms of Christian Music. Offering production, distribution, marketing and radio promotion, as well as high film-quality music video production, Lamon has become a successful "360" company, handling most all the major aspects of the music industry, as it represents artists and songwriters to help find a market for their music.

More Industry Success - Lamon's artists, producers and songwriters have won eight Dove Awards and over thirty Dove Award nominations from the members of the Gospel Music Association since 2002. This has made Lamon a major independent force in Christian music this decade and has led the company to expand its Christian entertainment footprint into television and film.

And the company continues to find success in other genres as well. In 2007, Lamon's Americana recording artist Chris Berardo and the DesBerardos had their album "Ignoring All The Warning Signs..." produced by Dave Moody and Dick Neal, recognized on XM Radio's Year-end Top 40 X-Country Album Chart. And in 2008, the label released several successful music videos by country artists Ivy Raye, Bobby D. Sawyer and Carrie Sneed. Other notable releases include legendary bluegrass artist Jesse McReynolds' "Dixie Road", George Hamilton IV's "Heritage and Legacy" and "Blue Ridge Sunday", singer/songwriter/actor Ed Bruce's "Changed", and two Motion Picture Soundtrack releases for the indie films "Stuck In The Past" and "Praise Band: The Movie". Lamon's artists have been on the major music charts of R&R, Music Row, Singing News, Spins, IBMA, Americana, GMN and others.

Lamon Records was one of the first Christian and Acoustic music labels to have its catalog distributed on Apple's iTunes. Today, the labels releases are available on all the important music download sites as well as the major online retailers Amazon.com, Target.com and others. The label continues to break new ground as it heads towards celebrating 50 years in the music industry.

Building Bridges with Music - In 1989, the Moodys and Lamon recorded a historic album in Prague, Czechoslovakia with Jiri Brabec and Country Beat. The album "Friends" was the first such cooperative production between an American company and what was then a communist state-owned record label Supraphon. The project earned critical acclaim and won the artists, producers, engineers and studios the Ampex Golden Reel Award.
