Junayd ibn Muhammad Abu al-Qasim al-Khazzaz al-Baghdadi (830-910 AD) was one of the great early mystics, or

al-Hallaj ,Bayazid Bastami andAbusaeid Abolkheir . In the process of trial ofal-Hallaj , his former disciple,Caliph of the time demanded hisfatwa and he issued thisfatwa : "From the outward appearance he is to die and we judge according to the outward appearance and God knows better".He is referred to by the sufis as "sayyid-ut taifa" i.e. the leader of the group. He lived and died in the city of
