Murmansk (cruiser)

Murmansk (cruiser)

Murmansk (Russian: Мурманск) was a light cruiser project no. 68-bis (Sverdlov class based on a NATO classification) of the Soviet and later the Russian Navy's Northern Fleet.

She was laid down in Severodvinsk in 1953 and commissioned on 22 September 1955. In 1994 she was sold to India for scrapping but ran aground off Norway at Sørvær village during the transfer.

The winterstorms during some years, maybe a decade or two, will finally remove the parts of "Murmansk" that are above water.

There is a dispute about possible radioactive substances within the ship.
