February 14 1950 , inSydney ,Australia ) is a former professionaltennis player from Australia.He is best remembered for reaching the men's singles final at the
Australian Open in 1974, where he lost toJimmy Connors 6–7, 4–6, 6–4, 3–6. Dent was also a men's doubles champion at the Australian Open in 1975 (partnering John Alexander), and a mixed doubles champion at the US Open in 1976 (partneringBillie Jean King ). Dent also reached five further Grand Slam men's doubles finals, finishing runner-up at the Australian Open in 1970, 1973 and 1977, and at theFrench Open in 1975 and 1979. He was a member of the Australian teams which won theDavis Cup in 1977 and theWorld Team Cup in 1979.Prior to turing professional, Dent won the boy's singles titles at both the Australian Open and the French Open in 1968.
During his professional career, Dent won two top-level singles titles (
Sydney andBrisbane , both in 1979) and 25 doubles titles. His career-high singles ranking was World No. 19 (in 1978). He retired from the professional tour in 1983.Since retiring as a player, Dent has settled in Orange County,
