- Have Doughnut
Have Doughnut was the name of a
US Navy project under a naval aviator named Tom Cassidy. Its purpose was to evaluate and exploit aMiG-21 that theUSAF acquired in 1967. In this project, Cassidy and other pilots flew F-4 Phantoms against the MiG-21 in a variety of situations. The project's name came from the "doughnut" sight on the F-4's canopy used to aim at the opposing aircraft. The inability of the Navy to disseminate the results of this highly classified project to combat pilots was part of the impetus to create theUnited States Navy Fighter Weapons School . The Have Doughnut tests were conducted in a "top secret desert spot", probablyGroom Lake orTonopah Test Range .
