Ram Gopal Varma's Phoonk turned out to be a surprise package at the Box Office. The movie opened up pretty well considering the superb publicity campaign. Being very low priced, it's excellent initial is enough to rate it as a hit. The youth got quite curious about the Rs 5 Lakh challenge. The movie however has got mixed response all over. Taran Adarsh gave it 4 on 5 and said, "PHOONK is a fascinating cinematic experience on a subject that’s rarely tackled by the dream merchants in Bollywood: Black magic." AOL india reviewer Noyon Jyoti Parasara was not too kind with the movie as he said, "Overall Phoonk scores low on the scare-o-meter." Trivia
A scene in the movie plays a track from the videogame Final Fantasy 8 called 'Breezy'. It was originally composed by Nobuo Uematsu.
