Confederate Veterans Brigades (Harry Turtledove)
- Confederate Veterans Brigades (Harry Turtledove)
The Confederate Veterans Brigades are a fictional paramilitary organization featured in Harry Turtledove's Settling Accounts fiction series. The Confederate Veterans Brigades are an analog to auxiliary Nazi organizations that helped their country during World War II- in the CVB's case they free up younger Confederate men to fight against the United States while they take their places in guarding the concentration camps, infrastructure and other places.
The Confederate Veterans wear the gray uniform of the Freedom Party guards and are divided into sectional units headed by an Assault Troop Leader (a sergeant in regular army ranking). In Hipolito Rodriguez's case, he and other veterans were dispatched to the site of a new "population reduction' center near Snyder, Texas, called Camp Determination, where they were trained in the art of killing black prisoners using "Transport Trucks"-gassing vans.
The Confederate Veterans Brigades seem to be a collection of analogs to real life German Army, SS, and Nazi Party units, such as the Volkssturm, Einsatzgruppen, and Totenkopf concentration camp guards.
