South-Doyle High School is a
high school located at 2020 Tipton Station inKnoxville ,Tennessee . It is a part of theKnox County school district. The current principal is Rick Walker.South-Doyle High was created in 1991 when Doyle High School and South-Young High School were merged by an action of the Knox County Board of Education. The campus includes both the former Doyle High campus (now the main campus area) and the campus for the former Doyle Middle school (now the Young campus). The extremely diverse student population is predominantly Anglo-Saxon while African-Americans and other ethnic groups comprise a minority of the total.
The school community is composed of families from all walks of life living in rural, urban, and suburban areas.
Sports
South-Doyle has been competing in athletics since the 1991-1992 school year, the year they opened. The Cherokees have won 7 state championships in all sports, with 6 of those being individual championships.
* Since girls wrestling is not a
TSSAA -sanctioned sport, these championships are only recognized by the school, and the United States Girls Wrestling Association.Football
The South-Doyle Cherokees football team is coached by Eric Hutchins, entering his 5th year as coach of the team. The 'Kees have struggled over the past few years, even having an 0-10 season, dubbed, "The Trail of Tears" by the student body in 2003. The Cherokees last playoff apperance was in 2001, where they were subsequently knocked out in thier first game.
The team will be switching to Nike in 2008, leaving behind local sports apperal company
Sports Belle The coaching staff has come under fire during the last 2 years, citing playcalling and the overall performance of the team as reasons.
