website = [http://groups.google.com.au/group/the-zen-centre]Jizoan Zen centre is a
Rinzai Zen Buddhist temple located inHamilton Hill, Western Australia , south of Perth. JizoanZendo is the first full time Rinzai centre in Australia . The centre was established in 1998.In 2004 the Centre sponsored a
Zazenkai for office workers in the Perth Central Business District in conjunction with theHyogo Prefectural Centre who provided the location. As of early 2008 this meditation group has been suspended until a new city location is found. Jizoan Zen centre continues however with plans to introduce a residential program by 2010.Temple practice
Based in the teachings of
Hakuin , Zen practice at Jizoan follows Rinzai tradition ofzazen meditation, open daily to public participation.Daily Zazen periods at Jizoan last 90 minutes followed by tea ceremony known as sarei and a light talk on practice. As with most Zen temples there is no need to enrol in a class, though the introductory workshops are recommended for those who wish to deepen their understanding of Zen practice and its forms.
The Centre offers a monthly introductory workshop and Ko-Sesshin on alternate Sundays.
During Ko-sesshin the day is divided up into meditation periods, Okyo Chanting of Sutras in the Rinzai Zen liturgy, morning Jihatsu (
Oryoki ) and evening Kaiseki meal times, and Shakyo (copying sutras in Chinese calligraphy), and a period ofSado tea appreciation.During other times of the month other cultural activities related to Zen such as flower arranging
Ikebana , and traditional Japanese martial artsKoryu bujutsu are also held using traditional style rooms at the Centre.ee also
