Ryan was exposed to the club scene at the tender age of 17 learning and observing styles of other DJs in Edmonton. When he turned 19 Ryan took a job at a local YMCA as a janitor cleaning floors and washing towels. While mesmerized by the dial on a washing machine, in front of which he spent many days constructing beats and mixing music in his head, he decided to call himself DJ Spincycle from the Y. In 1999, the $600 a month salary earned at the YMCA was not enough to support the costs of an up and coming DJ trying to make a dent in the industry, so Spin talked to an old friend who was a DJ at a local nightclub and he let Spin fill in for the night. Spincycle rebelled from the disco format of the club at the time and decided that hip hop was a better choice, and that was the beginning of a blossoming career in music. Since that faithful night Spin has built up quite the roster. He has been lucky enough to DJ with, meet and promote such artists as;
